NOW CLOSED! Open Reading Period – 11/1/17- 12/15/17
Please submit 3 poems, exactly 3 poems, no more, no less, in a single .doc or .docx file.
IMPORTANT! We read blind, so please do not put any identifying info in the submission document, or the file name, but only in the “Cover Letter” portion of the form. Doing so will cause your submission to be immediately returned to you.
Simultaneous submissions are fine. Please notify us as quickly as possible if your poem is placed elsewhere but inserting a note on your submission in Submittable..
We prefer shorter (1 to 2 pages) poems, but we will consider any length with a query first. In addition, we are particularly interested in series of poems and linked poems. We are willing to publish several pieces from single poets. Collaborative work is welcome too.
If your work is accepted at PPR, you agree to grant us First North American Serial Rights, plus the rights to reprint in any future anthologies. Upon publication all rights revert back to the author. You agree that if your poem(s) subsequently appears elsewhere (in print or online), you will give due credit to PPR as the place of first publication. We will pay $25 per poem via PayPal upon publication (you do not have to have a PayPal account to receive payments this way).
By submitting, you understand that we may use the full text of accepted poems or excerpted sections on our web site, on social media, and for other promotional materials.
Poems must be previously unpublished in print or online, including personal blogs, websites, or social media.
Please only submit once per submission period. If your work has been published in PPR, please allow one year to pass before submitting again.
IMPORTANT! We read blind, so please do not put any identifying info in the submission document, or the file name, but only in the “Cover Letter” portion of the form. Doing so will cause your submission to be immediately returned to you. (If it seems as if we are repeating ourselves, well, we are, because it’s IMPORTANT!)

While we will always have free open periods, we have decided to open this up to provide an opportunity for those of you who weren’t ready to submit during the open reading period, and for those of you who would like an expedited response with a little bit of constructive feedback (what we liked best, what’s working, what isn’t, and overall impressions our editors have of your work), AND to be able to get a back issue to boot!
We have back copies of all PPR issues #1 through #6, except #3, which is sold out. We will fulfill starting with PPR #1, and move up through the issues as each becomes depleted. If you have a preference for a particular issue, please note it in your cover letter, and we will do our best to accommodate you. If your work is selected, you will receive $25 per poem. Our usual submission guidelines still apply.
Calling all photographers and artists! We are looking for front cover art for future issues. There is only one basic criteria (more specific requirements below): It must a photograph, drawing, painting, sculpture, or any kind of visual representation which includes a BRIDGE in PITTSBURGH, or the surrounding area. There can be other things in the art than the bridge, as long as it’s clear a bridge is in there.
That’s it! Outside of that, we’ll consider just about anything.
All entries MUST come through Submittable. You may enter up to five pieces, but each entry must be submitted separately.
